Lotus Australia has issued a nationwide product safety recall for 114 examples of the Lotus Elise sports car made between 2014 and 2021 to rectify a fuel pump issue which may cause the engine to stall.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the low-pressure fuel pump impeller may become deformed and interfere with the pump casing, causing the fuel pump to become inoperative,” says the official recall notice.
“If this occurs, the engine could stall resulting in a sudden loss of motive power.
“A sudden loss of motive power whilst driving may increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

The Elise was last recalled in 2020 due to an issue with its fuel rail.
The popular sports car was last offered for sale in Australia in 2022 form, having been sold here since 1996.

The original model used a K-Series engine made by British brand Rover, before Toyota engines were introduced in 2004.
Owners of vehicles involved in this week's recall will be contacted by their Lotus dealer to arrange an appointment to have the work carried out, free of charge.
They can also contact Australian Lotus distributor Simply Sports Cars on 02 8424 7777, via email at warranty@lotuscars.com.au, or through the Lotus website.
